I once went on a couple dates with a really nice guy, and ended up ghosting him. I've kind of regretted it ever since — not because we were a match, but because he was kind-hearted enough to deserve better. I stalked him online again years later, and he was happy and married, and I was legit happy for him! 

I think you could say something like, "I really had a lot of fun, and think you're really great, but I'm not sure we're the right fit."

If it's just one date, I think it's fine to ghost. I know that's controversial, but only one date gets a pass from me. Especially if you don't really engage, he should get the hint. 

If he persists, or you don't wanna ghost, keep it short and sweet. Makes it A LOT easier and basically just rips the bandaid off.

"Appreciate you following up but I don't think we're meant to be a couple! Wish you the best!" Close the door and don't make it longer than it needs to be. No one wants to read that

Personally, I would actually rather be ghosted than get a rejection — I know it’s theoretically ruder, but, like, I can read between the lines without someone saying, “didn’t like you enough, no thanks!”

That way, I can just believe the person was abducted by aliens. 🤷‍♀️ 

But if it is persistent, it should probably get a response that makes it clear you are not into it. If it continues after that, Block.

I think we as women think we owe something. That we have to send the perfect break up text even after just one date, lest we be seen as bitchy. But truth is, you don’t owe him anything. A simple,” I don’t think it’s a romantic match between us, and I wish you all the best!”
