Candiace Dillard On Mia Thornton: "Nobody Came Begging You To Be A Part Of The Show"

Real Housewives of Potomac is my crown jewel of Bravo, I am ride or die for this group of women. I love them even when I don't like them. They are all beautiful, hilarious, and smart and they all bring something of value to the table, and they know it. So when we were introduced to newcomer Mia Thornton, I was unsure, I was hesitant but I was open because I trust these ladies' judgement.

But as the episodes go by and I see things on social media, I am still unsure. So obviously, I had to ask Candiace Dillard Bassett her thoughts on Mia and let's just say, she didn't hold back.

Previously, Candiace and I spoke about the Eddie Osefo cheating rumors (woof) and here, in this portion of our interview, Candiace explains the roller coaster she's been on with Mia and how she feels about the word "jealousy" being thrown around. Enjoyyyy.

Sam:
Okay. I have a question for you because I have mixed feelings about Mia. So, I'm curious how you feel about Mia.

Candiace:
Okay. So, I have to lean in.

Sam:
Yeah, let's lean in. Let's chat.

Candiace:
So, I also have conflicting feelings about Mia because when ... And I'll say this too. This is the first season where I am realizing that I don't actually know what happened this season.

In seasons past it's like I came out of a season and I knew exactly what happened, I knew behind the scenes and the whispers and whatever. And I'm watching this season and I'm like, "Girl, what was going on?"

And part of that is because of Mia. When she joined, I felt like she was getting a lot of bookaka from every angle and people were kind of ganging up on her a little bit.

She also did her fair share of hazing. She kind of went down the line coming for everybody. But there was the one moment in my townhouse when we had the pajama party that she walked in and she was barely in the house and everybody is coming at her.

Karen is like, "Well, we were talking about you." And then everybody starts jumping on her. And it was like her standing on one side and everybody else standing in a semicircle just taking turns going at her.

Sam:
Oh my God.

Candiace:
I don't know if it looked like that, but that's how it was. And that's why I stood on the counter because I was like, "No. Stop this." I felt bad for her because she was handling it but it was just not fair because I've been there.

Sam:
It was a lot.

Candiace:
It was a lot, yes. And it's not a good feeling. So, I was a Mia champion, I was like, "No, give her a chance, no let's give her a moment to assimilate and this is a lot to come into a group of crazy people like us and everybody has got their own dynamic and their own issues and it's crazy. So let her settle and mellow and get in."

And I didn't know about her lying all the time. I didn't know that until I watched it because I missed the first all-cast, I missed Wendy's titty party.

Sam:
Yes! The nude interlude.

Candiace:
I missed the nude interlude because my bum was not healthy. I was not feeling well. So, I didn't see where she doesn't know how old she is, and then she doesn't know how far apart her and her husband are, and she's known Gizelle for 2.5 seconds and Gizelle has a good heart, but then ...

So, then when I got to Karen's love lunch and she's like, "Well she's just a pretty face," I couldn't put it into context because I didn't know that she had just previously said that Gizelle has a good heart.

Sam:
Okay *nodding*

Candiace:
So, I'm watching it now and I'm like, "What is ... who?" I blame Karen because Karen, this is your friend and you did not tell this girl that everything she says can and will be used against her in a court of Bravo, okay?

Sam:
I agree.

Candiace:
You cannot say whatever and expect it to just-

Sam:
No, they will roll the tape back anytime.

Candiace:
Chile, the tapes they're going to be burning.

Sam:
Anytime anyone contradicts themselves it's like they're like, "We'll go back to 2008 when you said this."

Candiace:
Roll it back, roll the tape. So, I'm looking at that and I'm like, "What is going on?" And then of course when we get down the line and we're throwing salad it's like you-

Sam:
I can't wait.

Candiace:
Girl, first of all, I was team Mia.

Sam:
Because Candiace you're so tiny. But you're so tiny.

Candiace:
Yes.

Sam:
And your little arms reaching over the counter island for that bowl of lettuce, it's just ... In that preview I was like, "Candiace has to mount the kitchen island to reach the bowl."

Candiace:
Yes, yes, yes, and Mia is a giant woman with giant feet. It's the contrast. Her hands are huge, her feet are huger. She's tall. She's a glamazon, is how I would describe her.

Sam:
Yes, that's perfect. But for me it's the social media aspect of it. I can always ... She's very defensive on social media.

Candiace:
That's the other thing, yes.

Sam:
No one is discrediting your job, it's just the fact that you say that you're a boss every five seconds.

Candiace:
Every five seconds. And I didn't know that, too. I didn't know she was doing that.

Sam:
Yeah, it's weird.

Candiace:
So, it's a lot of stuff that I'm watching. It's too much. It's like, girl everybody here is a boss, if you want to call it that, and nobody ... And she said a lot too. I don't know if you saw this, but she said several times that we were intimidated by her and that people are intimidated by her. And it's like okay, projection much?

Sam:
Yeah.

Candiace:
Everybody here is amazing, beautiful, an entrepreneur, confident. We are not in short supply of any of those things, okay. And furthermore, you wanted to join our dynamic of women. Nobody came begging you to be a part of the show.

Sam:
I know.

Candiace:
So, just simmer down. If that's your angle, come with something else because what are you going to do next year.

Sam:
There's just so many things that I'm just clocking it in my head and I'm like, "Yeah, I don't ..." I think someone can be great for the show but also I know that they're not my kind of person that I would want to be friends with.

Candiace:
Yes, right, right.

Sam:
Because I don't agree with this mentality of automatically, because a woman doesn't like you, she's –

Candiace:
Jealous of you!
