Erika Jayne's 2018 TEDx Talk Is About How To Live Two Separate Lives

Erika "Jayne" Girardi did a TED talk. Yes, you read that correctly, a TED talk. (Well, actually, it was a TEDx talk, which is the same as a TED talk, just aimed at a smaller audience, but anyway.)

A TED talk, which you may or may not already know, is basically a presentation by someone who has been deemed a leader their field. A real expert who has important knowledge the world needs to hear. So, when I stumbled upon Erika Jayne's 2018 TEDx talk and discovered that it's basically a "how to" on living two different lives and bamboozling people in the process, I was shook.

The title of her talk is: "My Unapologetic Alter Ego: Living Life as an Exaggerated Figment of People's Imaginations," which, wow.

You'll please note that that's kind of similar to her first tagline on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, which was, "I'm an enigma, wrapped in a riddle and cash."

What is she trying to tell us in this talk?

First, I was immediately struck by her outfit when I started watching. It was a little "Erika Girardi" and a little "Erika Jayne." A black fitted suit, a sexy lace undershirt/bra, sleek hair, and subtle, but glam, makeup. The outfit – a little bit business and a little bit rock 'n roll – is symbolic of her double life.

The second thing that struck me was how she was speaking. I have watched her for years on RHOBH deliver "iconic" lines in a dramatic, slow fashion, but to see it on stage, in front of a small audience, it hits a little different. She was talking as if this was open mic night and it was her chance to debut her spoken word. It was bizarre, to say the least. But once you get past the strange cadence, you really start to unpack what she's saying.
