Lord John Grey (well, adult Lord John Grey) strolled onto the scene in Outlander Season 3 quite unglamorously as the governor of Ardsmuir Prison. Despite the drab setting, David Berry's portrayal captured the fandom's collective heart, even if Lord John couldn't quite capture Jamie's. Since his time as prison warden, the British nobleman has become a trusted friend and confidant to the Fraser family, but there's evidence that Lord John Grey won't be in Outlander Season 6 from Berry himself. If the Starz adaptation sticks to Diana Gabaldon's sixth Outlander book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, Lord John isn't essential to a sixth season, but what does his absence mean for the future of his character... and the rest of the series?
Ahead of Berry's last appearance in Season 5, the Australian actor spoke to the site news.com.au about the "uncertainty" he was experiencing regarding the future of Lord John Grey on Outlander.
"There's so much uncertainty in the world with John's involvement in the series, whether he goes ahead with Outlander is still undetermined," Berry said. "There was a point where I was in negotiations for talks about a potential spin-off but that's sort of out of my hands, and at this point, it's all in the realm of hypotheticals. I think it's just circling back to what I said before, that John's future in the Outlander series is undetermined."
