I was shocked because first of all she's AMAZING in the film. And second of all, she was such an early name in the conversation. I read that all of the actors in the film campaigned in the supporting category, but the Academy can vote for actors in whatever category its voters choose no matter what they're campaigning for. So having her up against someone like Judi Dench may have backfired a bit. 

I'm really sad for her. I think she really deserved it, but unfortunately, I think the award shows are more about internal politics (campaigning, etc) than it is actual talent. And lord knows we can't leave that up to the people... we'd give Timothee and Zendaya all the awards, even if they weren't in the movies. I would've loved to have seen Cait recognized for her talent. I'm optimistic she'll get another chance!

I often wonder if Jamie and Cait struggle with awards recognition given their Outlander background. We already know how much awards season loves to snub the show and its actors, and the fanfare surrounding them I'm sure does not help out all. I can imagine a lot of folks in Hollywood stick their nose up to the show, and therefore are less likely to give them the clout. 

That said, it hasn't hurt Tobias, but he's not as central a character, so...

Has everyone recovered from Caitríona not getting an Oscar nomination for Belfast? Especially when she was majorly predicted to get a Best Supporting one?! I know it's not a competition between them, but it does feel off that Judi Dench got it when Caitríona was so critical to the emotional weight of the movie. At least Ma can take comfort knowing the same thing happened to Jamie Dornan with Ciarán Hinds ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
