Immediately upon discovering that Jemmy had the family time-travel trait, the MacKenzies packed up for the future in Outlander Season 5. Roger and Bree going back to their own time was a departure from Diana Gabaldon's books since they hung around the 18th century for Book 5 and most of Book 6, but just because their trip to the 20th century failed in Season 5 doesn't mean that Brianna and Roger won't time travel again in Outlander Season 6. Book spoilers ahead.
After Jemmy's time-traveling genes break the opal in The Fiery Cross, Roger and Bree commit to staying in the past with their family. But after their daughter Mandy is born with a heart condition that Claire can't treat in A Breath of Snow and Ashes, they are forced to go back to their time to save their child. While Claire and Jamie can't be certain of what happened to them once they go through the stones, an epilogue proves the family of four all made it to the 20th century safely.
Because there have been no announcements of how many more seasons of Outlander there could be (though a Season 7 does seem in the cards), it's hard to figure out how this book storyline will play out the TV series. So I consulted with some Outlander fan accounts to theorize what Season 6 may do with the MacKenzie's time-traveling.
