I used to get work done at Starbucks while I was in college because it was located inside my schools bookstore and it was a big starbucks but now post college I realize that Starbucks is so distracting and as you stated the chairs are not comfortable. 

I am usually in and out of starbs, but there have been many occasions when WFH turned into WFS during my college years and even sometimes now when I am meeting deadlines and have to cover things in the area.

I go maybe five times a year for a coffee but it smells nice, has good music, it's mostly clean... I could see how it'd be an OK place to spend 2-3 hours

Honestly? Starbucks depresses me. It used to be the place to go or a great frappuccino and high-fat muffin, but then they added calorie counts, and ever since it's since become a soul-sucking place where people  sit and regret their work choices. 

And, yes, I think calorie counts were directly responsible. 

I think it has to do with geographic convenience.  Starbucks are everywhere, so there's a higher chance you will see more people seemingly hanging out there. 

I've always used it as a place to get work done or hold a meeting if I'm in an unfamiliar area because the experience there is always the same. 

I will NEVER understand how people work in a Starbucks. Maybe it's my diagnosed ADHD, but even if I have my headphones on I cannot concentrate for the life of me! I'm too busy people watching/judging.

I think this is all an evil conspiracy from the ‘Bucks. Theyre all “inviting” in a superficial way. Keeps up the brand.

But then your butt bones hit those crappy chairs, you start to take in the Muzak, and youre ready to leave in 20 minutes.

No! They play the music SO LOUDLY!! Luckily, where I am now, I can work outside which is very nice and convenient when WFH starts to feel like the walls are closing in on you.

I would say about 40% of the people who choose to sit down at Starbucks are actually there just to eat and drink their purchases. But the rest of the Starbucks people who are taking up space at the sitting areas are working from their computers, meeting a friend, or having a coffee date. It makes me think about how on Friends the coffeehouse is hub where people do more than just order coffee and muffins. But I wonder why that is? I know that Starbucks has the free wifi but there’s nothing comfortable about those seats to me and my local locations are so tiny. Do you visit Starbucks just to get your order and go or do you use it as the hub for work/social it has come to be?
