Congrats on the move! So I did this exact thing about 7 years ago, and I was terrified. It was actually not bad at all! And while I do consider myself a social person, at the time... making a new life was paralyzing to me. Here's what I found helpful! 

1) Fitness classes! This sounds lame, bc it's ... working out, but I met some of my best friends through boxing classes and barre!

2) Work! Find someone to be your Happy Hour buddy and then ask to meet THEIR friends (nonwork ppl)

OK, I have my advice below, but overall, my biggest piece of advice (as someone else mentioned) is BE VULNERABLE AND SAY YES. Tell people, "I really need to meet new friends!" and people will be excited to coordinate an outing! It's fun to incorporate someone new into a group. And when those friends invite you to some weird disco dance party that you're like, meh... idk about — go! A great opportunity to meet even MORE new people and y'never know — your new best friend could be waiting there! 

What worked for me was twofold: 1) Find restaurants/bars/events where you can be a regular. Go somewhere often enough, you’ll be treated as a friend, and start to organically meet others. And, 2) Come from a place of yes. Even if you don’t necessarily feel like hanging out one night, say yes and give it a whirl. Of course, prioritize yourself and your mental health (don’t go out if you are feeling bad for any reason), but don’t find convenient excuses not to when there isn’t a good reason.

This is so hard as an adult. I’m childless and dogless, so I take classes or find community at work. 

What interests you? How do groups of people interact with that interest? Find where they gather and engage. 

My sister moves around a lot and she likes running, so she finds running clubs (usually running shoe/athletic stores will have info on local running clubs) and she's met several good friends that way! If you're not a runner, maybe there's something else that has clubs...

There’s no magic answer, but I’ve made friends in a new city in three ways:

1. Coworkers. I’m not sure how much easier/harder it is post-pandemic, but this is always going to be the best in. Find your people, and don’t be afraid to ask them to drinks.

2. Gyms, but not the standard type. Try going to something interesting, like aerial yoga, or tennis lessons or something with a group.

3. Volunteering. Usually time to chat while working!
