Oh yes, i absolutely do. I think of this habit as a pre-emptive apology strike, meant to ward off any conflict. 

I know it's a bad habit. But it's also the path of least resistance. Makes change very very hard!

I do apologize for everything! I mean it about 45% of the time, but then sometimes you get hit back with "don't apologize!" or "you have nothing to be sorry for" and I'm like, yeah tbh i wasn't that sorry to begin with but just said it bc I'm trying to be nice. 

So my question for you, MIA, is are you ACTUALLY sorry? If not, why are you lying to yourself and to others? 

What drives me crazy is those IG posts about how women shouldn't apologize -- even when you make a mistake. It's like NO I NEED TO APOLOGIZE HARDER. 

Do I??? I'm not sure. I need to check in with myself this week and see. I feel like I don't but maybe it's so natural that I don't even realize. Like, hmm. Today at lunch, I had to scoot by a waiter in a small space to make my way to the bathroom. I didn't say sorry, but I think I said, "thank you so much" when he noticed and moved out of the way. Maybe I say "thank you" more than sorry???? I can't wait to find out

Literally like a REFLEX. Sorry is there first thing that comes out of my mouth idk how to stop! 

I've been trying to kick the habit, but I just can't seem to — I apologize for literally EVERYTHING. Someone bumps into me? I'm sorry! Someone interrupts me? I'm sorry! Someone declares war on another nation? I'm sorry!

I know we're socialized to say sorry and be deferential, but I honestly can't seem to stop. It's just a default that's burnt into my brain. 

How do we stop this madness? Is there a way we can still be polite, without apologizing for our mere existence?
