The answer is always gonna be Alanis Morissette to me. “You Oughta Know” is not only the best song of the ‘90s, it’s one of the greatest songs of all time. 

Far and away, "Lie In Our Graves" by Dave Matthews Band. How you describe hearing PJ at a young age is exactly how I felt with DMB. It blew my mind open and changed everything. 

Ohh this is such a tough question to narrow down. I think mainstays would include: Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, Britney and Christina of course; Mariah Carey, Alanis Morsette, Sheryl Crowe, Blink 182, TLC, Spice Girls, Meredith Brooks for “Bitch”, Shania Twain, No Doubt, Matchbox 20 (they sing my fav song of all time), Counting Crows, Savage Garden, Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls, Faith Hill, Weezer, Celine Dion, The Wallflowers (One Headlight) - I don’t think my list could end lol

My FAVORITE, or the highest quality? Because I recognize Pearl Jam and Nirvana and Fiona Apple and Lauryn Hill were transformational during the decade, but... 

There is just no other band that summarizes the chaotic optimism of the '90s. And does so SO loudly. 

(And their best song is definitely "Say You'll Be There," NOT "Wannabe.")

The 90s were the most formative time in my life for all things - but music especially. It’s when I heard Pearl Jam, Social Distortion and The Descendents. It’s so hard to pick a favorite but PJ wins for band and Daughter wins for song. Now, I have so many other favorite PJ songs (even from their 90s releases), but at age 11, Daughter spoke to me in a way that I didn’t know music could…  not that I had any idea what it was about.
