Confession: I Thought Having A Dog Would Make Me Skinnier

We all know "that girl." We have seen her out and about in real life, we follow her on Instagram, we may even be her friend or sister. And if you don't know what I'm talking about then you are her (lucky bitch). She's someone who has lots of thriving plants, cute matching athleisure sets, and when you ask her where she got her necklace, she says she "thrifted it." She's someone who runs in the mornings on the weekends. She has a perfect ponytail and she takes her dog for a walk with a coffee in her hand, not a drop spilled. For a long time, I wanted to be her and I really thought I could be.

During the lockdown in 2020, I started working from home like the rest of America, and it really highlighted how much I love to lounge; how much I really love to be a woman of leisure. I'm able to work from my couch or from my counter and I can wear whatever I want and eat whenever I want.

Then I found myself not leaving the house for days. Sometimes it would get to Saturday, and I was like wow, I have not stepped a foot outside in five days. That is not good for me mentally or physically. And I know this. I know that living like this didn't make me feel good, but I just couldn't motivate myself to really do anything about it. And then it hit me: I should get a dog.
