Do You Want To Watch A 'Gossip Girl' About Good People?

Look, we're all as excited about the Gossip Girl reboot as Blair Waldorf is about a snowflake ball. Romances, teenage scheming, headbands... who wouldn't want to supplement our annual binges of the 2000s great with some new material? But while we can certainly expect jokes about the Upper East Side, it's possible that the new Gossip Girl might look quite a bit different than its predecessor. Because Gossip Girl's new characters might be... good people.

Just see showrunner Josh Safran's latest interview, in which he sets some expectations for future viewers. As he told Variety, when writing the series, crew asked themselves, “So what’s the Succession version of Gossip Girl?” Go on..., we told ourselves. But then: "Unlike Chuck Bass, the Gossip Girl crew of 2021 is aware of income inequality. They take Ubers, not limos. They’re (mostly) not rude to service workers."

So, Gossip Girl's characters have matured. But is that what you're looking for from a reboot of a series in which attempted murder is as common as an order for a dirty martini? So is the topic of today's episode of our daily pop culture podcast, Pop Chaser.

So grab your ascot and listen to the latest episode of Pop Chaser, which you can find below, or on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen to your podcasts! And don't forget to take a look at The Dipp's other weekly podcast, TV. Watch. Repeat., in which Allison and I delve into the histories of some of your favorite TV shows.
