Look, we're all as excited about the Gossip Girl reboot as Blair Waldorf is about a snowflake ball. Romances, teenage scheming, headbands... who wouldn't want to supplement our annual binges of the 2000s great with some new material? But while we can certainly expect jokes about the Upper East Side, it's possible that the new Gossip Girl might look quite a bit different than its predecessor. Because Gossip Girl's new characters might be... good people.
Just see showrunner Josh Safran's latest interview, in which he sets some expectations for future viewers. As he told Variety, when writing the series, crew asked themselves, “So what’s the Succession version of Gossip Girl?” Go on..., we told ourselves. But then: "Unlike Chuck Bass, the Gossip Girl crew of 2021 is aware of income inequality. They take Ubers, not limos. They’re (mostly) not rude to service workers."
