Can We Talk About These 'House Of The Dragon' Photos (Read: Wigs), Please?

Move over Daenerys, there's a new blonde in Westeros. (JK, Dany, you'll always be my number one, please don't "dracarys" me to a crisp.) The first pictures from House of the Dragon are here, and while they're not official stills, they still reveal a whole lot.

The photos from the House of the Dragon set leaked on Tuesday, April 27, and show Matt Smith and Emma D'Arcy walking together on a beach and dressed in their full Targaryen garb — ice blonde wigs included. Luckily, HBO confirmed that House of the Dragon was officially in production for Season 1 by launching an official Twitter account for the show and sharing photos of the cast at a table read, so we actually know who they're playing.

Smith will play Prince Daemon Targaryen in the new series, and Emma D'Arcy will star as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, a dragonrider like Daenerys. And, from the looks of it, they'll both be very broody. The photos show the two of them having an intense chat on the beach (fans are already speculating about whether they're in Old Valyria or Dragonstone), and Daemon leaving Rhaenyra to stare out at the ocean alone. I can feel the family tension — and potential incest — already.

Incestuous vibes aside, one thing that really stands out in these photos is the hair, or, more specifically, the wigs. The Targaryens are known for their white blonde hair, the women specifically known for their braids. Obviously, there's nothing wrong with giving both Smith and D'Arcy some blindingly bright wigs, but, upon closer examination, it's clear that HBO can do better, specifically when it comes to Smith's hairline.
