I think you have some smaller, more niche cliques. And I think it's happening less in the movie world and more in the TV (and even podcast) world. For example, you have the How Did This Get Made / Human Giant clique — Paul Scheer, Casey Wilson, June Diane, Jason, Ken Marino, Rob Huebel, etc. They might not be making huge movies, but Children's Hospital and their podcasts are pretty strong. 

And then you have the clique of Mike Schur, which is a little more widespread and "star-creating." 

There haven’t been any really good MAJOR comedies lately and its mainly because to get people back in theaters — you need those blockbuster films like Batman and Bond and Top Gun.  But I was recently watching an Adam Sandler movie which often featured the same people (Steve Buscemi, David Spade Kevin James). I was also watching Talladega Nights that featured Will Ferrell’s usual clique (John c reilly, Gary cole etc). There’s also the Seth Rogen crew (Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, formerly James Franco). It made me wonder who is the new comedy clique? Yeah we’re seeing Pete Davidson and MGK and maybe John Mulaney share the screen sometimes but that’s DEFINITELY not it. I am excited to see what the future holds once studios get back to making not just for streaming comedy.
