Courtney Henggeler may have first popped up on your tube-loving radar as Sheldon Cooper’s twin sister on The Big Bang Theory. Maybe you remember her as Anna Faris’ restaurant boss on Mom. And you might have caught the Lifetime movie she wrote last fall, the deliciously titled The Secret Life of a Celebrity Surrogate. But there’s no doubt that if you are a fan of what is one of the greatest sequel series of all time, you know and love her as Cobra Kai's Amanda LaRusso, the caring, tough, one-liner tossing wife of Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso, a.k.a. the Karate Kid.
Amanda is Daniel’s business partner, too, with the couple creating a successful car dealership they run together. And, most importantly to the creation of a successful series, Amanda is the voice of reason — the supportive, loving wife who also is not shy about poking a little fun at the fact that Daniel and his high school rival, Johnny Lawrence (Billy Zabka), are still high school rivals… 30 years later.
It’s that deft decision by the Cobra Kai creators – lifelong friends and Karate Kid fans Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg – that serves as a wink to the audience that they know it’s kinda silly that these fiftysomethings are still beefing. And that gives viewers the freedom to go ahead and embrace the continuing Daniel and Johnny saga in all its karate and REO Speedwagon-obsessed glory.
