Opposites Attract, But Do They Work?

This is something that I think about all the time. I know that opposites attract because I have seen it and lived it. I dated someone in my early 20's (can't believe I can say that now 👵) and we just vibed. We were very different, like our personalities. He was super chill and laid back, quieter than me, very into school and I, well, I never stop talking and I don't think I would classify myself as chill. And it was fine. Then as the relationship went on, what brought us together, and what we liked about each other, kind of drove us apart. It became something I resented in him. I hated how quiet he was, how he was so laid back. And I think he just didn't understand anything about me because it was just so different than him.

But then I see relationships with people who seem to be polar opposites and they make it work (Lisa Rinna/Harry Hamlin, John Legend/Chrissy Teigen, Blake Shelton/Gwen Stefani), and they all seem so in love and happy. Ofc, they have their moments but I find it so interesting.

Do you think opposites can make a lasting relationship?
