Think of concealer as a fish and foundation is the pond.

I THINK concealer and foundation are basically the same, with a textural difference. I could be wrong on this (since I’ve used neither since I was a 10-year-old in dance class), but I think concealer is liquid while foundation is a little more solid. 

It’s also possible concealer is for specific spots, while foundation is all-over usage. But, ultimately, your last point is the most correct — always trying to get us to buy more. 🤷‍♀️

Foundation is meant to be used all over the face; concealer is just to even out any spots. Really, concealer is just good for any zits, blemishes, etc. 

The beauty blogs all tell you to put foundation on and then concealer, but you really don’t need both, or either at all. Personally, I HATE the way it feels on my face (and I have PTSD from everything I used to cover up zits as a teen), so all I use is moisturizer, and call it a day. 

I totally agree with you. Concealer is good for hiding shadows under the eyes, but finding the right shade is pretty difficult, as it is sometimes different from foundation shades. There are also brighteners that should be applied just below the concealer, but over the foundation. Additionally, do you apply it with your fingers and pat it in, or with a brush??? Some use it as a primer for eye shadow as well. Very confusing.

I have a confession. I have no idea what concealer is for. How is it different than foundation? I have seen people use it in exactly the same way as foundation which adds to my confusion. 

What is the point? Or is it just a scheme by big beauty to get me to buy more makeup?
