What Did Jughead Say On His Voicemail To Betty? 'Riverdale' Writer Chrissy Maroon Teases The Reveal

A Riverdale without Betty and Jughead as a ride-or-die duo? If you asked me at the beginning of Season 4 if that could be a potential fate for this show, I would have called it impossible. Alas, post time jump, there's very little of "Bughead" on Riverdale to be seen. So far, two only shared one scene together — and it's a tense one that explained why there's a palpable disconnect between the two: blame it on Jughead's voicemail.

While Betty and Jughead went their separate ways after Archie joined the military after high school graduation, it was apparently a voicemail Jughead left his ex-girlfriend the night of his book launch that officially ended their post-relationship bond. When the two reunited in order to help Archie save Riverdale from Hiram Lodge, the mood wasn't exactly cold, but it certainly wasn't "let's-imminently-get-back-together" warm.

So... what the heck did Jughead say on that voicemail that sunk the Bughead ship, at least temporarily? In The Dipp's Clubhouse event with Riverdale writer Chrissy Maroon and @nocontextrvd's Macy Jones, Maroon teased, "We will find out what was said, so you can be happy about that."

It's hard to imagine the meanest thing that Jughead could have said to Betty. After all, the two were broken up. Maybe instead it's not about exactly what Jughead said, and more about how he said it.
