Netflix's 'Death To 2020' Special Trailer Gives Quibi One Last Minute Of Fame

After months of debate, it has been determined that 2020 must die. It's like Kylo Ren famously said, "Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to." And kill it, we must. But not before having a little fun with it first. Netflix's Death to 2020 special aims to do just that, by bidding goodbye to the dumpster fire year with a mockumentary starring all your favorite celebs. It's both hilarious and depressing at the same time.

The special comes from Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker and executive producer Annabel Jones, so you can expect Death to 2020 to be almost as dark and twisted as the year itself. "Death to 2020 features fictional characters discussing real events in a bombastic mockumentary, but quite a bit sillier than that makes it sound," Brooker explained in a press release. Or, as the narrator (Laurence Fishburne) of the trailer promises, "This is the definitive story of the most historic year in history." (Based on the delicious Quibi burn at the end of the trailer, I'm inclined to agree.)

And, who best to lead such a historic event than celebrities? "I'd say it was a train wreck and a shit-show, but that would be unfair to trains and shit," Leslie Jones, who plays a behavioral therapist in the mockumentary, declares in the teaser. The special also stars Samuel L. Jackson as Dash Bracket, a reporter for the New Yorkerly News; Hugh Grant as History professor Tennyson Foss, looking more like Bernie Sanders than the husband who (spoiler alert) definitely killed his mistress in The Undoing; and Kumail Nanjiani as a fancy tech CEO excellently named Bark Multiverse. The teaser also shows a glimpse of Tracey Ullman's Queen Elizabeth II, Samson Kayo as a scientist, and Lisa Kudrow as conservative pundit Jeanetta Grace Susan.
