You can take the girl out of Riverdale, but only for so long. After leaving Riverdale for one season to star on the short-lived spinoff, Katy Keene, it looks like Josie will return to Riverdale for Season 5, though whether she's really back for good or just a fun guest arc, remains to be seen.
Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teased Josie's Riverdale comeback in an Instagram post on Sunday, Jan. 18, celebrating actor Ashleigh Murray's birthday. "Ashleigh, like Josie, you are a super-star. You are passionate, a pro, and a class-act through and through," he wrote in part, alongside a photo taken during one of Riverdale's many Comic-Con experiences. "Can't wait to for what's coming next," he added, "Starting with...A BIG REUNION!!!! Love you, Lady!! πβ€οΈπππ§¨π€πΉπ."
Now, what would be a bigger reunion than Josie's triumphant return to Riverdale?
If Murray is getting ready to reprise her role as Josie on Riverdale, it's unclear whether or not she'll be back as a series regular, or a guest star. What is certain, however, is that she will be singing. Aguirre-Sacasa has been dropping Season 5 hints via emoji all over his Instagram and Twitter this summer, and this Murray birthday post is no exception. The first few emojis β a birthday cake, a heart, a present, and a trophy β seem more Murray-specific, but the last four β dynamite, a microphone, a piano, and a ticket β are definitely hinting at Josie's comeback.
