Our Podcast Dissects The History Of 'Fresh Prince,' & The Best Theme Song Ever Written

Now this is a story all about how... NBC took a bet on the surest thing imaginable, Will Smith. In our latest episode of TV. Watch. Repeat., my co-host Allison Piwowarski and I are joined by The Dipp's Social Media Manager Kaya Wilson (also known as the voice behind @BravoWhileBlack) to chat about the 1990 hit series, The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

Though the show was an instant hit, executives were skeptical that audiences would be willing to accept a series about a black rapper in Alf's former time slot, no matter how PG Smith's music career had been. (I mean, the dude had just performed at Disney's 35th anniversary special.) In our episode, we discuss just why Fresh Prince terrified studio executives, even as he was being hailed as the next Eddie Murphy.

Also, listen to the episode to find out the origins of the best theme song ever written, and why the Carlton Dance has become especially triggering for Allison.

So take a minute and sit right there and enjoy our latest episode of TV. Watch. Repeat. on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts, and be sure to follow @BravoWhileBlack and subscribe to their Patreon!
