Milo Ventimiglia Joins 'Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,' But I Just Want Jess Back

It's time to face facts: Gilmore Girls isn't coming back. It's Mrs. Maisel's world now, and we have no choice but to live in it. Need proof? Milo Ventimiglia is joining The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4, reuniting with Amy Sherman-Palladino in a project that will very much not take him back to Stars Hollow. But, I guess I'll take what I can get.

Amazon confirmed that the This Is Us star will have a guest role on the upcoming season of Mrs. Maisel, but no other details about his character have been announced. Fingers crossed he's playing a time traveling Jess Mariano! (Hey, a girl can dream, right?) OK, odds are, he'll be playing a character actually, you know, from the '50s. But will he be playing someone in Midge's comedy life (like fellow Gilmore Girls alum Liza Weil did when she guest starred in Season 3), or will he be playing someone in her New York City orbit? And will he bring his short shorts along for the ride?

Ventimiglia is far from the first Gilmore Girls alum to make the leap to Maisel. Hell, he's not even the first This Is Us cast member to cross over (Sterling K. Brown played Reggie in Season 3.) But, he is arguably one of the most highly-anticipated stars (save Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, for obvious reasons). In fact, Sherman-Palladino has been promising to get Ventimiglia on the show for almost three years.

"Don't think it has not been discussed," she said in a joint interview with Variety in 2018. She went on to promise that it was all about finding the right role, and assured fans that should Ventimiglia ever come to Maisel, it would be for more than a cameo. "It's got to have some meat to it. And it's also got to be a time when he can shave and cut his hair into a 1950s-period look. But the reuniting will definitely happen." Well, with This Is Us wrapping up its final season next year, now seems like a pretty good time to change it up!

As for who Ventimiglia would even want to play on the show, he didn't give anything away, saying he'd "sweep the floors on Maisel" if Sherman-Palladino and her husband and co-producer, Dan, asked. "I just want to hang out with you guys."

Ok, but when is Gilmore Girls coming back then, dude?
