Since she found out she was pregnant, Madison has been adamant that come hell or high water, she will create a stable environment for her children, whether Kevin wanted to be in the picture or not. Thankfully, as of the most recent episode of This Is Us, Madison and Kevin got engaged (again) and seem to be fully committed to making their family unit work.

But this forward momentum lays bare the mystery of Madison's own family backstory. We've seen how Kevin so desperately wants to live up to the example his father Jack set for him as the ideal dad, but what were Madison's parents like? Do they even know about Franny and Nick?

Well, it doesn't seem like we'll have to wait too long now to figure out more about Madison's side of the family. As a teaser for "One Small Step," the upcoming eleventh episode of This Is Us Season 5, reads, "Kevin and Madison get an unexpected guest." So is this "unexpected guest" her mom, who Madison repeatedly has said she's not very close to?

We’ve been getting some serious hints that she has unresolved family drama we don’t know about yet. First, in the Season 4 finale, "Strangers: Part Two," Madison went to her third OB-GYN appointment by herself. At that point, she still hadn't told anyone about her pregnancy. Not Kevin, not even her family, who she said "I'm not close with."
