Charlotte's New Dog Burton Is A Nod To Elizabeth Taylor (May She Rest)

Spoilers for Episodes 1 and 2 of And Just Like That ahead.

It's always so wonderful to reconnect with old friends, and seeing Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbs back on our screens was a real treat. Of course, someone was missing. And no, I'm not talking about Samantha Jones, who was written out of the series and fictionally sent to London for work; I'm talking about Elizabeth Taylor, Charlotte's Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

In the reboot, we see Lily, Charlotte's daughter, snuggled up on the couch with an English Bulldog we learn is named Burton. Burton and Lily seem like best of friends, and Charlotte, always so needy!, feels left out of the relationship.

There's no direct mention of what happened to Ms. Taylor, but the lifespan of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is 9-14 years. Seeing as Charlotte adopted Elizabeth over 15 years ago, I think it's safe to assume that Ms. Taylor took the rainbow road to the sky, may she rest.

The human Richard Burton, of course, was twice a husband to Elizabeth Taylor. The two actors had an epically torrid relationship that was filled with love, jealousy, drugs, and a scandalous and emotional funeral.

Charlotte, Harry, Lily, Rose, and Richard Burton York seem to have a good thing going, and the nod to their beloved dog Elizabeth Taylor (may she rest) via Richard's name is a nice touch.
