Is Kevin On 'Riverdale' Going To Die 'My Girl'-Style?

Once again, we need to talk about Kevin. The Riverdale High music teacher (as well as history, and math, and a bunch of other subjects...) was recently indoctrinated into the Blossom family "church," which, unsurprisingly, is nothing more than a scam in order to save the family from destitution. At least, it was a scam, until Cheryl started drinking her own Kool-Aid...and it could be Cheryl's goddess complex that ultimately brings doom upon Kevin.

In "Band of Brothers," Cheryl revealed that she believes she may be the world's first living saint, due to the power that she holds over bees. (Yes! Really!) Basically, she and Kevin decided to con their congregation by having Cheryl perform several "miracles," which were nothing more than just magic tricks. The final miracle, however, wasn't a David Copperfield rip-off. Somehow, Cheryl squeezed honeycomb swarming with bees in front of her followers, and had not received a single sting. Kevin assumed that Cheryl had rubbed some anti-bee ointment, but no: Cheryl really is just Riverdale's Queen Bee.

The problem? Earlier in the episode, Kevin said that he's seriously allergic to bee stings, which is why he didn't want to get involved with Cheryl's bee trick in the first place. While Kevin was not stung by bees this time around, there's nothing to stop Cheryl from testing out the extent of her sainthood, and bringing the bees back — putting Kevin directly in harm's way. And as we know from the movie My Girl, a bee sting is really no joke when you're severely allergic.

Normally, I wouldn't jump to such intense conclusions about Kevin's fate, but it's worth pointing out that someone is likely going to die on a future episode of Riverdale. KJ Apa posted (and then deleted) scenes of the cast filming what appears to be a funeral scene. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Riverdale's showrunner, teased as much in an Instagram post about the upcoming Season 6, writing in the caption, "Forces are gathering for the ultimate battle between Good and Evil as the cameras begin to roll on #Riverdale Season Six. But who will stand on which side? And who will live, and who will die? Everything has been a prelude to this."

Notably, Aguirre-Sacasa did not include any bee emojis — but he did include a red shoe, red lipstick, and a red smooch emoji — all symbols of Cheryl.

Now, Kevin's death via bee sting would be random — but it would also be super sad, and a way to shake up Riverdale. It's worth noting that the show has spent time this season exploring Kevin's dissatisfaction with his own life, and if Kevin were to die, it could potentially kick the rest of the Riverdale gang into high gear: They would be reminded that life is short, and that they should go after what they want as soon as they possibly can.

Of course, there's also the chance that Kevin's bee sting comment was just a throwaway line and not actually a clue as to his fate — and the possibility that he does get stung by a bee, but survives with a new appreciation for life. Either way, I'm keeping my ears out for any buzzing: Kevin's life depends on it.
