8 Questions About 'Riverdale' Season 5 That Remain Unanswered

It’s been 84 years (okay, like, four months) since Riverdale went on hiatus. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve spent most of that time speculating about what’s going to happen next in Riverdale, the small town with pep.

When we last saw our dear Riverdale friends, a bunch of inmates broke out of Hiram’s private prison (including Archie’s uncle); Jughead was potentially kidnapped by entities known as the Mothmen; and Veronica’s husband Chad was basically holding her in a relationship hostage situation over what sounds like some potential white collar crime. Oh, and then there’s the more Silence of the Lambs-adjacent drama with Betty, who is hunting down not one but two serial killers — including the “Lonely Highway Killer,” who kidnapped her sister Polly.

Like I said: It’s a lot to keep up with. If you need a cheat sheet, here are all the questions we still need answers to when Riverdale returns on August 11.

Who is the Lonely Highway Killer, and do we know them?

On Riverdale, most of the serial killers are, well, the main characters’ parents — but we’re kind of running out of them! If the Lonely Highway Killer is not a parent or some other more “adult” figure, it’s possible the Lonely Highway Killer is one of the gang. My bet if that’s the case? It’s Sweetpea — we learned in the first post time-jump episode that he drives trucks along the highway. Yet there’s also a real chance we haven’t met the killer at all and he’s just a random creep about town.
