The First Episode Of The 'Real Housewives of Orange County' Is Unrecognizable

Welcome to Retro Recaps, where we revisit your favorite old shows and give them the modern recap treatment that they always deserved. We've done Buffy's silent episode, Friends' 18-page letter, Sex and the City's Fleet Week episode, Gossip Girl's Snowflake Ball episode, The O.C.'s Chrismukkah episode, Lost's "The Constant," Gilmore Girls' dance marathon episode, that bonkers One Tree Hill episode where a dog ate a heart, and 90210's "U4EA," and The Real World. (Check out all our Retro Recaps here.) Today, we dive into the original Real Housewives of Orange County. Caution: snark ahead.

Have you ever been visiting your parents’ house and stumbled upon the VHS tape of your high school production of Pippin and found the world’s last remaining VCR to play that tape? If you have, and I do not suggest doing this, you’ll have a familiar feeling rewatching the original episode of Real Housewives of Orange County, the show that kicked off Bravo’s juggernaut of table-flipping, wine-throwing, limo-hollering women that has managed to last fifteen years.

Yes, the show premiered on March 21, 2006 and the opening shot of the women holding their oranges looks less like a time capsule and more like a really cheap porn parody version of The Real Housewives with Kimberly Bryant, a one-season wonder, standing in the middle looking all MILF-y in her animal print tank top.
