With Men in Kilts and talks of a spinoff, having a subscription to Starz is pretty essential for an Outlander fan. But there's something to be said for the ease of watching Outlander on Netflix. The streaming platform is a great gateway for getting more people onboard the Outlander express. (It's how my parents-in-law got hooked in quarantine.) But as for when Outlander Season 5 will be on Netflix, you're most likely in for a long wait. No, not quite as long of a wait as between Books 8 and 9, but a long wait by Droughtlander standards nonetheless.
While Outlander is shown on Starz in the U.S., it's a Sony Pictures Television production, so Sony holds the distribution rights. Some countries already have Season 5 on Netflix, as fans in Sweden, the Netherlands, and Canada have reported on Twitter. But before you get too jealous, What's On Netflix pointed out that Outlander is billed as a Netflix Original in many countries outside of the U.S. So for some, Netflix is the only way to watch Jamie and Claire.
Netflix US just dropped Outlander Season 4 in January, exactly two full years after the series finished airing on Starz. And, that seems to be a trend. Season 3 finished airing in the US on Dec. 10, 2017. Sure enough, two years later (to the date), Netflix released Season 3 on its streaming platform for all to relive. Seasons 1 and 2 didn't hit Netflix until five years after the show originally premiered in 2014 (and three years after Season 2 finished airing).
