An 'Outlander' Season 7 Announcement May Be Coming Sooner Rather Than Later

With a planned 10 books and a devout fanbase, there is no lack of content or passion for another season of Outlander. But the last time there was news about the Starz show's future was nearly three years ago, when it was announced that Outlander was renewed for Seasons 5 and 6 before Season 4 even hit TV. However, now Sam Heughan and show creator Ronald D. Moore indicated in separate interviews that an Outlander Season 7 looks promising. From their mouths to Sony Picture Television and Starz's ears!

Cutting off Outlander at Season 6 would make no sense from a story perspective — there's already an additional two published books by Diana Gabaldon with two more on the way. But there are more factors to consider when it comes to renewing a show, like viewership ratings, and actor involvement. Yet, even as his career expands, Heughan wasn't shy about his willingness to continue with Outlander when he appeared on The TODAY Show on Feb. 19. "It's been a really fun ride," Heughan said. "I can't believe [it's] actually eight years now we've been making the show and we look to make many more, hopefully."

Heughan, who is also now a producer of the show, has said similar things in the past — like when he was asked on Twitter about how he feels as the Outlander story gets closer to the end. "I hope we continue for years. There have been discussions. Just hope you all keep watching!" he replied. But Heughan's latest statement about "many more" years of Outlander seems to carry extra weight since Moore also spoke of the show's future the very same day as the actor's interview.
