How Much Will The Christies Hurt Claire In 'Outlander' Season 6?

Caitriona Balfe may be staying safely at home after giving birth to her new baby, but Claire Fraser may not going to be so lucky. While promoting her upcoming film Belfast, Balfe teased the Christies in Outlander Season 6 to EW. She labeled the new-to-the-Ridge family of Tom and his children Allan and Malva as "villains," and noted how the Christies will impact Claire. But just how much of the Christies' bad behavior from the books will make it to Season 6? Spoilers for A Breath of Snow and Ashes ahead.

"Outlander does baddies and villains quite well," Balfe told EW after the Toronto International Film Festival. (As she tweeted, she had FOMO for missing out on the festival following the birth of her son.) "[The Christies] aren't your typical villains, which is great and refreshing."

In Diana Gabaldon's sixth Outlander book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, the Christies really mess with Claire. Sure, they cause problems for other members of the Fraser family, but Claire seems to receive the brunt of the blowback from their actions.

"Claire and Malva build a great relationship and bond," Balfe added. "It's very destabilizing for Claire. It's a really heartbreaking, but a really twisted narrative that they all get embroiled in."

"Really twisted" is quite accurate. To go over it briefly, Malva Christie becomes Claire's assistant in her surgery. (Guess Marsali is too busy with what Lauren Lyle called her "tumultuous" relationship with Fergus this season.) But Malva is quite troubled and secretly tries to kill Claire. When it's revealed Malva is pregnant, she claims Jamie's the father. And when Malva's discovered dead, Claire is blamed for the murder.
