Remember That 'Friends' Reunion? Well, It's Supposedly Still Happening

February 2020. It was a different time. A time of innocence, of hope. A time when HBO Max could announce a Friends reunion would be coming in May — and we believed it. Now, a full year later, we are older and wiser — hardened by life — which is why I'm taking David Schwimmer's Friends reunion update with a grain of salt.

On March 3, Schwimmer assured fans that the long-awaited Friends reunion is still happening. The television event was originally supposed to film last spring and premiere on May 27, 2020, to help celebrate the launch of HBO Max, Friends' new streaming home. But then, COVID-19 happened, and delay after delay prompted many fans to give up hope of ever seeing the gang return to Central Perk.

During an interview with Andy Cohen, Schwimmer insisted the reunion was still in the works. "It's happening," he said on Sirius XM's Radio Andy, adding that "in a little over a month" he'll be heading to L.A. to film it. "Finally we figured out a way to film it safely, and there's gonna be a portion of it that we filmed outside because of safety protocols."

So, according to the actor, the Friends reunion is filming in April. Keep in mind, though, that in November of 2020, Matthew Perry tweeted that the reunion was "rescheduled for the beginning of March." So, you know, don't be too surprised if in a couple weeks we get another update from a different cast member pushing the Friends reunion back to 2026.
