What Is Faye's Backstory In The 'Cowboy Bebop' Anime? Her Real Identity Is A Mystery In Season 1

Faye Valentine has an awfully positive attitude for someone who has no idea who she really is. Throughout Season 1 of Netflix's Cowboy Bebop, Faye is on the hunt for her true identity, but so far, all she's found is an old VHS tape and a clue about the suburban community she appears to have grown up in. In the finale, the amnesiac turned bounty hunter leaves the Bebop in search of the house she saw in the video, but if Faye's backstory in the Cowboy Bebop anime is any indication, she's unlikely to find many answers on her search.

Much like in the live-action version, the anime version of Faye has no clue who she was before she was woken up after being cryogenically frozen. In the case of anime Faye, she eventually learns she was born on Earth in 1994 to a wealthy family. While not much is known about her time on Earth, she was a cheerleader in high school, and seemed to lead a happy, normal life until she and her parents ventured into space in 2014.

During the trip, their shuttle was involved in an accident that killed both of her parents and left her gravely injured. She was then cryogenically frozen until her injuries could successfully be treated. Unfortunately for Faye, this meant she was left on ice for 54 years, at which point she was treated by doctors who then charged her an exorbitant amount for her surgeries.
